Havana, Cuba

Siá Kará

In April, we created and performed Siá Kará at the “Habana Vieja: Ciudad en Movimiento” (“Old Havana: City in Movement”) festival in Havana, Cuba. We were honored not only to take part in the festival, but to be the first American dance company to premiere a site-specific dance piece in Cuba. Heidi Duckler, Nicholas Heitzeberg, Roberto Lambaren, and Teresa Barcelo immersed themselves in the rich culture of Havana as they created the new work, Siá Kará—titled after an Afro-Cuban phrase meaning “to wash away the past.”
